The organs and glands in the body that help to make a new individual is called reproductive system.

 

Reproductive System

Male organs
a. Primary reproductive organ
b. Secondary reproductive organ

  1. Penis
  2. Scrotum
  3. Urethra
  4. Prostate
  5. Seminal vesicle
  6. Epidedymis
  7. Vas defferens
  8. Ejaculatory duct
  9. Bulbo-urethral glans

Function:

a. Penis

Helps in urination
Helps in copulation
b.Testis
Producion of semen
Secondary of hormones, e.g. testosterone
Stimulation of growth of male sex organs and secondary sexual characteristics by hormones.
c. Scrotum
Protects the testis from external violence
Maintains a temperature which is lower then the temperature abdomen
Contains the testis and the lower part of the spermatic cord.
d. Vas Deferens
Transmits spermatozoa from the epididymis the ejaculatory duct
e.Prostate
Secretion of this gland add bulk to seminal fluid.
Zinc of prostatic secretion provides protection for spermatozoa.

Spermatogenesis:
Spermatogenesis includes all the events by which spermatogonia are transformed into spermatozoa.

Steps of spermatogenesis-

A. Proliferation stage.
Primordial germ cell
Type A and type B spermatogonia
Primary spermatocyte by 1st meiotic division
Secondary spermatocyte by 2nd meiotic division
Spermatid

B.Maturation stage
Spermatid
Spermatozoa
Hormones of testes and their function –

Hormones of testes-
a. Testosterone
b. Inhibin.

Functions of testosterone hormone –
Stimulates the growth of male sex organs
Promotes the development of male secondary sexual characteristics.
